CORPORATE BODY

2023, in progress

In this ongoing piece, I am attempting to turn my body into a corporation, by defining various parts of my body as assets that perform non-economic labor and transferring their ownership to subsidiaries of a corporation that is wholly owned by me.

The project faces some legal gray area, as in most places around the world, individuals are not entitled to ownership over their own bodies.

This piece extends the concept of corporate personhood - the legal notion that a corporation is entitled to some of the same rights as an individual - into the realm of literal interpretation. Additionally, the work serves as a protest against the notion that individuals lack ownership rights over their own bodies and explores the real constraints imposed by conceptual frameworks such as legal structures.
